Mentor Graphics and Xilinx Announce Support of Xilinx DSP Algorithms Through FPGA Advantage and LeonardoSpectrum
WILSONVILLE, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 4, 2000--Mentor Graphics
Corporation (Nasdaq: MENT) and Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq:XLNX - ) today
announced that the Mentor Graphics® LeonardoSpectrum(TM) and FPGA
Advantage(TM) solutions fully support Xilinx' new LogiCORE(TM) DSP
algorithms created for its next-generation Virtex(TM)-II architecture.
The LeonardoSpectrum solution is part of the Xilinx XtremeDSP(TM)
Initiative, which provides a complete solution for DSP engineers from
system level design to hardware implementation in FPGAs.
``Working closely with key EDA vendors, such as Mentor Graphics,
has been a fundamental Xilinx strategy to ensure that our tools and
FPGA technology evolve at the same pace,'' said Babak Hedayati,
director of marketing and business development for IP solutions
division at Xilinx. ``By supporting our XtremeDSP Initiative, Mentor is
further demonstrating its commitment to a critical group of customers
for whom time-to-market is a matter of success or failure.''
``Mentor Graphics is committed to providing the most comprehensive
FPGA design solution available, and partnerships with industry leaders
like Xilinx are key to that strategy,'' said Anne Sanquini, vice
president and general manager of Mentor Graphics' HDL Design Division.
``We offer our mutual customers the ability to win in their respective
markets by having designs completed and ready for implementation as
soon as new devices hit the market.''
Xilinx endorses Mentor's unique implementation of LeonardoSpectrum
synthesis for the Xilinx System Generator(TM) tool. LeonardoSpectrum
now enables systems designers in fast-paced markets, such as broadband
and wireless, to immediately begin development of Virtex-II based
systems. The System Generator tool allows designers to define and
verify a complete DSP system using industry standard DSP tools from
The MathWorks.
Built upon the industry-leading LeonardoSpectrum synthesis tool,
FPGA Advantage enables data management, team design, rapid
intellectual property (IP) integration, design reuse, synthesis,
simulation and advanced debugging. This functionality maximizes
quality of results, increases productivity and simplifies design for
multi-million system gate FPGAs.
License Price and Availability
An evaluation copy of FPGA Advantage will be included with each
XtremeDSP development kit, which will be available through Xilinx in
January 2001. Eleven new LogiCORE DSP algorithms were released as part
of the XtremeDSP Initiative for implementing data communication and
image processing applications. These include a new filter generator,
integrated with MATLAB from The MathWorks, a multipliers generator, a
parameterized MAC (Multiply Accumulate Cycle), DCT/iDCT, three G.711
PCM Codec cores and four color space converters. The new LogiCORE DSP
products and prices can be downloaded from the Xilinx IP-Center at
www.xilinx.com/ipcenter.
Xilinx XtremeDSP Initiative
The Xilinx XtremeDSP Initiative, announced November 21, 2000,
addresses the increasing need for high-performance DSP solutions
driven by the broadband revolution. The initiative marks a major
commitment by the company to further establish its leadership position
as a high-performance DSP solutions provider. Solutions from the
initiative will support over 600 billion multiply accumulates cycles
(MACs) per second, more than 100 times faster than the industry's
leading embedded DSP processor core. The initiative also includes new
DSP features in its next generation Virtex-II architecture,
pre-engineered DSP algorithms, and enabling system-level DSP
development tools.
